Flexibly organised compact lectures (5 days in 2 weeks during the semester) including contact hours, self-study (working groups), web-based support as necessary, 2 hours weekly

Mode of assessment
100% participation in part 1; working on a group exercise, including a presentation and documentation of the results in part 2 
Teaching aims : Students are shown how to use facilities at the University of Applied Sciences, such as the library, laboratories, examination offices as well as basic academic research skills
Social competencies and general learning skills through groupwork on topics from obligatory courses in the 1st to 3rd semesters.
The learning outcomes of this course are as follows:
? introduction to methods and techniques of independently organised project work
? learning and applying presentation techniques
? gaining experience in cooperative problem-solving
? introduction to interdisciplinary subject areas
? building identification with course of studies, especially in terms of social processes and current topics  
Contents :

Part 1:
Introduction to academic research, using the library, course organisation, IT infrastructure, tutorials on subjects such as scientific documentation (2 days at the beginning of the semester); selection of a group exercise for 2nd part
Independently organised (and coaching as necessary) groupwork between the first and second parts of the course

Part 2:
Developing presentations and guided exercises on the results of groupwork; rotating presentation of groupwork (3 days mid-semester)
