Teaching aims : The student should acquire additional practical skills on the topic of IT security within an internship, accompanying the course Fundamentals of Security and Security of Distributed Systems, which are complementary to the fundamentals of IT security. In doing so, the student should independently work on and solve a current and challenging topic within an associated task in a team-oriented manner and present it orally and document it in writing.  
Contents :

Internship as software development or security analysis project, working on a selected current topic and solving a challenging development or analysis task in the field of IT security. The project deals with the following tasks in this semester:

• Security in Industrial Control Systems (ICS): Investigation of the potential of malware infections on programmable logical controllers (PLC) and/or human machine interfaces (HMI)...
• Steganography (in industrial control systems): Analyses for the detection of malware infections and hidden communication channels, e.g. using so-called "sandboxes" or "man-in-the-middle"
• Implementation of Stego channels in corrupted PLC servers: Extension of an existing corrupted PLC server by additional stegoanographic channel

Previous knowledge in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
- Programming in Python AND C++
- Experience with embedded computers (Raspberry Pi, Adruino etc.)
